Help:Portal

Jump to: navigation, search
Portals are entry points for a specific topic, similar to the main page. They provide an overview over a topic and guide readers to the content they seek which is either another portal or an individual article. Portals are also top level navigational components in the openSUSE wiki.

Create a new Portal

To create a new portal on the topic Bananas follow these steps:

  1. Create a new page with the title Portal:Bananas and enter literally {{subst:Template:Portal}} and then save it.
    The other, easier, way is to use drop down list created by extension MultiBoilerplate. See Help:MultiBoilerplate for details.
  2. Return to your portal page Portal:Bananas. The box portal allows you to edit the portal without editing the main portal page. Simply follow the red links to the sub pages and enter the information there.

Portal layout

Please keep the layout (colors, background images etc.) as it is because we want to have a consistent Portal styling. You are free to edit the content in the subpages and to add or remove boxes.

Add/Remove a static box

Just add the following somewhere on the Portal:Bananas page to get a box where you can display static information about Monkeys.

{{Box-header|Monkeys are Cool|{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Monkeys|}}
{{:{{FULLPAGENAME}}/Monkeys}}
{{Box-footer|}}

Afterwards fill the Portal:Bananas/Monkeys page with content. The box on Portal:Bananas will now display the content of Portal:Bananas/Monkeys.

Add/remove a dynamic box

Just add the following somewhere on the Portal:Bananas page to get a box where you can display dynamic information about Peeling Techniques.

{{Random portal component with nominate|max=5|header=Peeling Techniques|footer=More Techniques...| subpage=Techniques}}

Afterward fill the Portal:Bananas/Techniques/1 to Portal:Bananas/Techniques/5 pages with content. The box on Portal:Bananas will now display the content of these pages randomly.

Portal features

You can use of course every wiki feature you want in Portals but there are a couple of them that fit the content very well.
